CPC Courses

Driver Certificate of Professional Competence courses are delivered by qualified CPC Instructors, all come with industry experience and provide the highest quality interactive Driver CPC courses.

All  Driver CPC courses at KKL Training Ltd cover a number of key areas so learners will be able to demonstrate an understanding of these through debates and assessments.

Drivers Hours

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses, drivers will be able to describe the main points relating to: 

  • The legal framework – Why driving laws were introduced and what the penalties are for not following them 
  • Drivers tachograph Hours rules,  including driving breaks, allowable driving time, daily and weekly rest periods, and record keeping 
  • Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations, including what constitutes working time and what does not, the average and total hours of work allowable, breaks and record keeping. 

Road Traffic Laws

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses, drivers will be able to describe:

  • The role that each of the enforcement agencies play in enforcing and maintaining road safety. This includes the role of the Traffic Commissioners and the power they hold to suspend or revoke licences
  •  The Highway Code. Key provisions and the meanings of signs, road markings and signals
  •  What category of driving licence is required to drive different types of commercial vehicle, how to read a licence and what the restriction codes mean
  •  In the event of a road traffic infringement, what endorsements and penalty points may be applied for improper use of the tachograph
  • Why the Operator needs a licence to run commercial vehicles and the undertakings required to maintain and renew an Operator’s licence 
  • Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS).What the happens if the driver has a roadside infringement and how this might affect the OCRS7
  • The requirements for legally operating a vehicle in the UK, including the walk around check and the Construction and Use Regulations.

Digital Tachograph

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses. Drivers will be able to describe the main points relating to:   

  • Why the Digital Tachograph was introduced, to replace the analogue system 
  •  The vehicle unit – the different makes, the similarities and the functionality (i.e. mode, messages via the display, the printer etc) 
  • The different cards used by those involved in the use of the tachographs and what to do in the event that the card becomes lost, stolen or damaged, or malfunctions 
  • What to do in the event of having to make a manual entry, or working in a mixed fleet of analogue and digital tachograph vehicles. 

Safe Loading and unloading

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses, drivers ill gain a further understanding of: 

  • The most suitable methods of restraint to be used, depending on the type of load carried 
  • Some factors leading to loss of the load and the potential harm and loss that may occur 
  • What the law says about safe loading, who’s responsible for an insecure load, and the penalties for loss of load and overloading 
  • Some of the key areas in which harm or loss could occur as a result of loading and unloading activities.

Fuel Efficient Driving

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses, drivers will develop an understanding of:

  • Why fuel isn’t in infinite supply and the cost is expensive, as well as the impact on the environment of burning fuel 
  • How to save fuel before they set off by properly completing the walk around check 
  • The importance of route planning to avoid hold ups, and the operator’s correct selection of vehicle to carry the load in question in order to lessen the impact on the environment 
  • Driving techniques that can help the driver conserve fuel whilst out driving the vehicle 
  • What they can do when back at base to reduce fuel usage – filling up at the end of the day when the engine is hot/warm, 

Manual Handling

By the end of the Driver CPC Courses, drivers will be able to identify:

  • The reasons why we have safe manual handling regulations under the MHSAWA and guidelines issued by the HSE 
  • Why manual handling tasks are risk assessed and how this contributes towards improving Health & Safety. This includes understanding what a dynamic risk assessment is and why it is important that a driver carries this out each time they lift an object 
  • The types of equipment that are used to help reduce manual handling tasks, such as pallet trucks and FLTs 
  • The safe manual handling principles and basic techniques that will be debated and demonstrated on the course
